WHO WE ARE

INTRODUCTION

Substance abuse has become like “normal” in various communities. The addicts are shunned and treated with disdain by the general populace. It is mainly, once it hit home, that families become devastated, confused and beleaguered, not knowing what to do and which way to go for help.

The Department of Social Development in the Gauteng Province plays a leading role in the implementation of the substance abuse programs and interventions in ensuring that there is internal and external participation of all stakeholders.

 SIBAMBENE SWANEVILLE YOUTH REHABILITATION CENTRE AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CENTRE is one community-based programme that came about after a group of young people in Ward35 Mayibuye Extension 5 in Swaneville, Mogale City, have been victims or close relatives affected and loose lives or ability to re-build through substance abuse. They then decided to roll up their sleeves and get to utilize the broad-based services of the Social Development Department. These Young People felt the need to come to rescue of the helpless and help parents and the community by providing a platform and vehicle to work hand-in- hand with the Department and other stakeholders.
